Need a fiction editor? I’m not whom you need :)

If you’re a fiction writer looking for an editor, I first thank you for considering me 🙂 But I’m afraid I’m not the person you need.

Like any profession, editors also have specializations. I edit for international development organizations and for social science academics.

I don’t have the experience nor skillset for fiction editing. Depending on what level of editing you need, you would want an editor who

  • can give you feedback on characters and story arc, including consistency
  • has a good ear for creative English (my ear is mainly for “is the information getting across in a direct and clear manner” type writing ^^)

If you’re looking for professional editors, you could check out these directories:

Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP): UK-based institute. They have members around the world and not just those who are British English speakers…but of course probably best suited for those of you writing British English. (I know this because I’m a member, and I’m an American English speaker 😉)

Editorial Freelancers Association: A US-based association but with members around the world.

ACES: The Society for Editing: A US-based association.

Editors Canada: The Canadian editors’ association.

Institute of Professional Editors (IPed): Editors association for Australia and New Zealand.

And another website that offers more advice: 8 Places to Look for a Freelance Book Editor You Can Trust.

All the best on your writing!
