和英翻訳 Translation: Japanese to English

I consider myself more of an English editor/proofreader than a translator, but here is an example of a Japanese-to-English translation that I did for a parenting magazine (December 2017 issue of BAMBI News).

Even though it’s a ‘translation’, I purposefully tried to steer clear of sticking literally to the original. My focus was on making the English article read…well, like an English article.

Reviewing it now, though, I admit that I would work on this further, as it still sounds somewhat stiff.

I made sure that the content accurately matched the original, however, and requested the author for relevant references, which went into both the Japanese article and the English version.

英語雑誌に掲載するために、和英翻訳したものです。

原文と内容は違わないように心がけながらも、敢えて一対一の直訳ではなく、英文に「翻訳しました」感がなく、普通の記事として読めることに注意し、翻訳・編集させていただきました。

(今見直して、まだ手直ししたい文章ですが…。)
